Have you ever heard of Second String Leather? In this episode of the Smallegan Real Estate podcast, we visit with Joe Messina and Zac Smith, two local entrepreneurs who are doing great things in the Grand Rapids hockey community. Listen along as they share the story of how they turned old leather hockey products into useable goods such as wallets and watchbands. This is a great listen for anyone who wants to learn more about this unique and inspiring local business.

Joe Messina and Zac Smith are the founders of Second String Leather, a company based out of Grand Rapids that turns old leather hockey products into useable goods. After seeing the potential in these otherwise forgotten pieces of equipment, Joe and Zac decided to create something unique out these pieces. The idea was to take something that had been forgotten about and give it new life—which is exactly what Joe and Zac have done with Second String Leather.

The duo has been able to turn these materials into a variety of items including wallets, belts, watchbands, golf club covers, and even pet collars! Each piece is handcrafted with care by artisan craftsmen in Grand Rapids. Second String Leather is truly passionate about making a difference not just within their local community but also within the hockey world at large.

At Smallegan Real Estate we believe firmly in supporting our local businesses whenever possible, especially those that are giving back to our communities! We encourage everyone living in Grand Rapids or anywhere else around Michigan to check out Second String Leather if you’re looking for quality handmade goods made from recycled hockey materials. Thank you again to Joe Messina and Zac Smith for joining us on this episode of the Smallegan Real Estate podcast – we highly recommend checking them out if you haven’t already!  Thanks for listening!
