Like most condo buildings you see in Grand Rapids today, many of them did not originate at facilities for people to live in. The condos at Union Square have a similar history but rather than converting an unfunctional furniture factory into condos, this building started as a school. The brick portion of the building is the original high school that educated students in Grand Rapids for many years.
