With over 3,000 students, the East Grand Rapids Public school district is highly ranked for the academics they provide to their students. In 2014, they were ranked 53rd by Newsweek’s America’s Top High Schools and continue to provide a valuable education to their students. Students are given the opportunity to participate in athletic activities, art programs, drama programs, and music programs.

These programs that are offered to students are designed to help them excel in specific areas of interest. There are many sports options like lacrosse, football, basketball, volleyball, and more for students to participate in. Drama, music, and art programs are for students in the school system that are interested in learning more about these particular subjects. Throughout the year, there are often performances put on by the East Grand Rapids students for the public to watch.

Ranked academically with 9 out of 10 stars or higher, East Grand Rapids Public Schools consist of 3 elementary schools, a middle school, and high school so that students can remain in the school system K-12. Breton Downs Elementary and Lakeside Elementary have high rankings with 10 academic stars and Wealthy Elementary is also highly ranked with academic 9 stars.

GASLIGHT VILLAGE

On the east side of the East Grand Rapids neighborhood, Reeds Lake is a beautiful lake lined with magnificent houses and a walking trail. Reeds Lake has a number of parks with playgrounds or benches for resting along their 4.2-mile long trail for residents to enjoy. The largest of these parks is Manhattan Park which is full of places for recreational activities and athletic fields. Another great stop along Reeds Lake Trail is Remington Park where you can find Rusty Swaney baseball diamonds.

John Collins Park is also located on the Reeds Lake Trail next to the Grand Rapids Yacht Club. For over 80 years, this yacht club has been serving the community and continues to call Grand Rapids, Michigan home. The Grand Rapids Yacht Club is located in the Gaslight Village which is full of shops and restaurants. Shops like Rosa’s Closet and Dear Prudence are easily accessible while you walk around the neighborhood. You are sure to work up an appetite while you shop so be sure to stop in at Olga’s Kitchen of Crazy Charlie’s for a meal.

 

DINING IN EAST GRAND RAPIDS

East Grand Rapids may be a small neighborhood but it is packed with great restaurants for residents to enjoy. Rose’s is a lakeside restaurant that resides on the west side of Reed’s Lake and allows patrons to enjoy their meal while admiring this beautiful lake. This restaurant has a variety of unique foods and large patio to accommodate patrons who want to dine outside.

For more savory food in Gaslight Village, stop by the Derby Station to enjoy their great selection of craft beers with rotating taps. Pair one of their freshly made dishes constructed with local ingredients to any of their craft beers. For a simple yet delicious meal, stop by Crazy Charlie’s for a yummy hotdog and fries. Wash your hotdog down with one of their milkshakes or if you want dessert, grab a scoop of ice cream.
