At Brookside, we are committed to ensuring all scholars experience an engaging curriculum and high achievement. Our scholars benefit from learning in their own neighborhood, on the southeast side of Grand Rapids next to the Gerald R. Ford Nature Center and the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. Our staff work with each scholar to identify their needs and help them take their learning to the next level. We also partner with local organizations to ensure that our scholars can bring their learning to life. Brookside is a community where scholars can thrive and reach their full potential. At Brookside Elementary, we believe that partnerships between school staff and caregivers are essential for creating a positive and collaborative learning environment. We welcome and encourage families to be involved in various aspects of their scholar's growth, including attending parent-teacher conferences, participating in classroom activities, and volunteering in the school. These partnerships not only benefit the scholars, but they also enrich the Brookside community as a whole. When families are involved in their scholar's education, it helps to build a sense of ownership and pride in the school. Additionally, partnering with families allows us to gain a better understanding of each scholar's unique needs and how best to support them. We are proud to have such strong partnerships with our families, and we believe that they are a key part of our success as a school.

Brookside Elementary is a school that takes pride in its ability to offer a variety of services to students and their families. Parent Teacher Community Council provides parents with an opportunity to be involved in their child's education, while community-based mentoring gives students a chance to interact with positive role models from the outside world. ESL services are available for both PK and 5th grade students, and the partnership with the Kroc Center provides access to fine arts and movement education, as well as swim lessons. The Brookside Community Garden Plot allows students to learn about sustainable gardening practices, and the rain garden helps to reduce stormwater runoff. Finally, the Green Schoolyard Grant has resulted in the addition of natural play structures and an outdoor classroom, providing students with even more opportunities to explore and learn.
