Grand Rapids Montessori Academy

As a Montessori school, we believe in fostering the whole child. We want our students to grow academically, but we also recognize the importance of social-emotional development. That's why our motto is G.R.A.C.E.: Growth, Responsibility, Acceptance, Courtesy, Empathy. We encourage our students to be lifelong learners who take responsibility for their own education. We also teach them to accept others who may be different from them, and to treat everyone with courtesy and empathy. By instilling these values in our students, we hope to create a more compassionate and just world.

Dr. Maria Montessori, the Italian pediatrician who founded the Montessori method, believed self-motivation was the key to learning. The Montessori teacher acts as a facilitator of that learning, stimulating interest in all facets of a child-centered learning environment. Montessori education recognizes the importance of all developmental areas, including social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs. At Grand Rapids Montessori, we work hard to support scholars’ development in each of those areas. Our curriculum is designed to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while also providing opportunities for creative expression. We believe that all children have the potential to be successful learners, and we strive to create an environment that supports their individual needs. Our teachers are highly trained in the Montessori method and are passionate about working with children. If you are looking for a school that will challenge your child and help them reach their full potential, consider Grand Rapids Montessori.

The Montessori classroom is designed to promote hands-on learning and exploration. Scholars learn in cooperative groups of three different age levels, allowing them to develop a sense of respect, understanding, and tolerance for others. They also have the opportunity to learn at their own pace and become self-directed learners. The Montessori method fosters independence, order, and respect for each individual scholar. This type of learning environment has been shown to be very successful in preparing children for future success in school and in life.
