Originally part of Paris Township, the Michigan Oaks neighborhood became its own residential area in the 1920’s. There are six lakes in the Grand Rapids city limits and three of them can be found in this neighborhood giving it a unique feature that cannot be found in other neighborhoods. West Lake, Middle Lake, and Church Lake are all located just north of Fulton Street East and sit side by side to one another.

Not only is the Michigan Oaks neighborhood home to three lakes, it is also home to a number of excellent schools for children in the area to attend. The Grand Rapids Hebrew Academy was established to provided Jewish children within the community a place to better understand their religion while receiving a reliable education. Another faith-based school in the neighborhood is Eastside Christian which is located on Michigan Street. This school focuses on teaching students an academic curriculum and teaching children the core values that will help them succeed in the future.

On the north side of the Michigan Oaks neighborhood is the People’s Cider Co which creates premium dry cider. Next door to the People’s Cider Co is the CrossFit Luminary where you can train with professionals to learn CrossFit. Whether you are already in shape or not, these trained professionals can help you begin your journey into the world of CrossFit.

Just down the road from the People’s Cider Co and CrossFit Luminary is the entrance to the Oak Industrial Park where you can find a number of small businesses and manufacturing facilities. Eerdmans Bookstore, Kid’s Food Basket, Gilson Graphics, and more can all be found in the Oak Industrial Park.

Frederick Meijer Garden might be just down the road but the Michigan Oaks neighborhood has a sculpture park of its own. St Francis of Assisi Sculpture Garden at Marywood Academy is an 11-acre wooded area filled with meaningful sculptures.

On the northeast side of the Michigan Oaks neighborhood, Frederick Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park opened in 1995 and has been providing residents from all over Michigan with a beautiful place to visit. There is a wide variety of garden and sculpture parks for people to enjoy while visiting the facility. Although they are well known for their butterfly exhibit that takes place in the Spring, there are many other places to stop while you are visiting.

Just across the street from Frederick Meijer Gardens, Cornerstone University is another area that has natural beauty. Although the campus is near the city, they have done a great job maintaining the natural beauty of the campus. Students have been attending the university since 1941 and can major in a number of different degree programs.

South of Michigan Oaks is the Eastown neighborhood which is filled with homes that have great detail and character. In this neighborhood, you can find Reeds Lake which is another of the six lakes within the Grand Rapids city limits. There are a number of great restaurants and boutiques to shop at.

Just on the other side of East Beltline Avenue, the Gravity Taphouse Grille is a great place to find a variety of delicious food and drinks. With a large menu filled with a mixture of different items like sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, pizza, and more there is sure to be something for everyone. In addition to their great selection of foods available, there is a wide variety of craft beers to choose from.
