Established in the 1990s, the Highland Park Neighborhood Association works to maintain a safe and welcoming neighborhood. They work for the betterment of the community not just for residents, but for visitors as well. The local crime watch program has brought community members together to keep their neighbors safe. 

Highland Park neighborhood and park share a name, but the park has a history of its own. Established in 1873 by Alpinus and Melville Bissell and Benjamin Harland the park has grown from 3.5 acres to 30 acres and now boasts additions like a swimming pool, baseball diamond, and soccer field. 

The first people to establish the neighborhood were of Polish descent and established St. Isidore Church back in 1897. Over the years the neighborhood has diversified and is home to people of all nationalities. 

Boarding the Highland Park neighborhood to the west is the Belknap Lookout neighborhood, when you can find amazing city views. Stop by Lookout Park on a clear day for breathtaking views of Grand Rapids and the Grand River.

Located near the north of the neighborhood is Kent Country Club, a members only retreat. This club has 18 holes of golf, swimming pools, tennis courts, and a fitness center.

Also located north of the Highland Park neighborhood is the Wellspring Preparatory High School. This school is highly ranked in academics and strongly recommended by parents of students that attend.
